The Astronomy Photographer of the Year Competition has this year recieved a record number of entries from both amateur and professional photographers. The competition is run by the Royal Observatory Greenwich in association with Sky at Night Magazine, this years winners are:


Overall and Deep Space Winner: M51 – The Whirlpool Galaxy by Martin Pugh (UK/ Australia)


Earth and Space winner: Star Icefall by Mashahiro Miyasaka (Japan)


Our Solar System winner: Transit of Venus 2012 in Hydrogen-Alpha by Chris warren (UK)


Young Astrophotographers winner: Pleiades Cluster by Jacob von Chorus (Canada)
